Antitumour agent
Antitumour agent -: Antitumour agent are the agent which are used
in the treatment of tumour. Means the agent which can be used for the purpose
of the treatment of tumour is called as antitumour agent.

Biological source -: Vince is a dried entire plant of catharanthus
rosens.
Family -: Apocynaceae
Geographical occurrence -: The plant grows wild and is cultivated in
India, Africa, East Europe and Australia.

Plant
is an herbaceous shrub growing to a height of one meter it is woody at the
base.

Leaves
are ovate, oblong and oppositely arranged. They have a petiolated acute base,
rounded apex and entire margin.
3. Flowers are white, pink or violet in
colour.
Constituents -: Mainly alkaloids. They are classified as-:
i)
Indole dihydroindole type: Ajamaline, serpentine, lochnerine and
tetrahydro alstonine.
ii)
Dimeric indole-indoline type: Vincristine and vinblastine These two
alkaioids have anticancer effect.
Uses -: Vince is a source of vincristine and
vinblastine which an anticancer drugs.
1. Vincristine is used for leukaemia in
children.
2.
Vinblastine is used for Hodgkin's disease and choriocarcinoma
